Kidepo Valley National Park

Kidepo Valley National Park, Uganda is a beautiful wilderness tucked in North Eastern Uganda. It is a semi-arid region made up of a breathtakingly extensive savannah landscape that extends to the far ends of beautiful mountain ranges.

“Kidepo” is derived from the Dodoth verb “akidep,” which means to “pick up,” as the locals in the park participated in fruit picking.

This park is also the third-largest safari park in Uganda after Queen Elizabeth National Park and Murchison Falls National Park, and it covers an area of 1,442 square kilometers.

The beautiful park was created in 1962, and it is home to about 77 mammal species and 476 bird species.

Kidepo Valley National Park is also home to two rivers: the Kidepo River and the Narus River, which both become dry during the dry season, thus leaving only pools for the wild animals to drink from.

This Man and Biosphere Reserve is where the indigenous Karamojong people, the IK, and the Maasai, who are a hunter-gatherer group of people, live.
